bacarra bell tower

                                          WELCOME! to BACARRA BELL TOWER!
The town of Bacarra is founded as a mission by the Augustinian friars in 1590. It is the third oldest town of Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. This used to be a huge belltower with two levels more, that if you are in Laoag City the province capital, you could see the bell tower. It was built during the term of Fray Pedro Berger in 1828-1848. The tower was destroyed by several strong earthquakes.

Bacarra is known for its leaning bell tower that collapsed in a 1984 earthquake. What remains of the tower can be seen from the national highway. However, because it is at the center of the town which is around 1.5 kms. off the highway, most travellers skip it and continue their journey to the next town.
